  • Sundays, April 5,12,19,26 Contemplative Motion: A Butoh based movement workshop during the month of April from 12-2pm 
Each Sunday in April is a chance to try Butoh (a form of Japanese Dance) in a movement workshop at 700 Main Street. 12-2 pm. Suggested Donations: $2-22.  More information. 

  • Monday Evening, April 27, ‘Fermentation’ Presentation by Slow Food Buffalo Niagara at Campus House at 6pm
An evening highlighting the topic of Fermentation will be presented by Slow Food Buffalo Niagara at Campus House at SUNY Buffalo State College Campus.  Free; Suggested donation $5  More Information

  • Saturday, May 2, Pan American Exposition Day and Tea Ceremony at The Buffalo History Museum at 10-3pm 
Over a century ago, on May 2, 1901, the Pan-American Exposition opened in Buffalo, New York. Visit the History Museum and The Resource Center to learn more about this Exposition. Docents are available at the Resource Center from 1-3pm.  Experience a Japanese Tea Ceremony in the round on the Portico of TBHM (11:30 and 1:30). A morning discussion of Cherry Trees at 10:30 am at TBHM followed by a Tree Planting in the Garden. Tour Lincoln Parkway neighborhood with Explore Buffalo. Food Trucks. Museum Admission/Members Free.

  • Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3, Japanese Film Festival; North Park Theatre at 11:30am  
‘Princess Mononoke’ will be shown during the first weekend of the Cherry Blossom Festival. This is a fan favorite for lovers of Japanese animation and Studio Ghibli. Cosplay Fans- common costume! North Park Theatre, 1428 Hertel Avenue. Tickets are a Family Friendly $5  www.northparktheatre.org

  • Sunday - Wednesday, May 3-6 Japanese Traditional Doll Display during Museum Hours 
View a Traditional Japanese Doll Display (Hinadan) and Folk Dolls.  Museum Admission/Members Free.  More Information

  • Sunday, May 3 Cherry Blossom Festival Family Day at The Buffalo History Museum 12 noon-4pm 
Celebrate the festival inside the museum and outside in the Garden with Origami, Crafts, an Instrument Zoo and Musicians, "The Bamboo Princess” a Japanese Fairytale Puppet Show, A Hula Hoop-a-thon, Drum Circle and Butoh Performance. Pink Boat Rides on Mirror Lake and Food Trucks.  Museum Admission/Members Free.

  • Wednesday, May 6 Interactive Parade of Fashion featuring International & Historical Attire with Live Music and Doll Display  6- 8pm
Traditional and Folk Costumes will be exhibited. The audience is encouraged to wear a cultural costume or your own country’s national clothing. Be apart of this interactive fashion show. Red Carpet Photos, Cosplay, Music and Fire Dancers as well. Traditional Japanese Dolls and Folk Dolls will be on display.  Museum Admission, Members Free. 

  • Monday -Friday Afternoon, May 4-8 Quiet Time in The Japanese Garden  
Spend time alone or with a few friends in the Cherry Blossom Grove. Bring a Picnic and enjoy an afternoon in the Garden.  Don’t forget your camera.  (Self-directed)

  • Saturday & Sunday, May 9-10, Japanese Film Festival; North Park Theatre at 11:30 am  
‘The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness’ will be shown during the second weekend of the Cherry Blossom Festival. This is documentary that takes fans behind the scenes of the Studio Ghibli creative process and covers the ‘retirement’ of Hayao Miyazaki. Cosplay Fans- common costume! North Park Theatre, 1428 Hertel Avenue. Tickets are only $5. www.northparktheatre.org

  • Saturday Morning, May 9 Cherry Blossom Challenge Orienteering Event at 11am
Navigate your way on a 2.5 km course that starts and ends at the Japanese Garden and traverses the rest of Delaware Park. Maps and instruction provided by Buffalo Orienteering. $10.   www.buffalo-orienteering.org

  • Saturday Afternoon, May 9 Music Day at the Cherry Blossom Festival  
Celebrate music day by bringing your own instrument and joining in with our very own “Cherry Jam” session. Musicians will also perform in the garden. A May Pole Dance and a Pink Parade will wrap up the 2015 festival. Tour Lincoln Parkway neighborhood with Explore Buffalo. Pink Boat Rides on Mirror Lake and Food Trucks.  Museum Admission/Members Free.
